Since Elder Cohousing emerged in the United States, three communities for active older adults have been completed. Below is a brief description of the ElderSpirit Community in Abingdon, VA and the Glacier Circle elder cohousing community in Davis, CA which were completed in 2006 and the Silver Sage Village development in Boulder, Colorado. ElderSpirit Community - Abingdon, VA is a 29-household elder cohousing
neighborhood on a rural 3.7 rural acre site whose residents moved in during February and March 2006. This
community has filled all their homes and has a waiting list. Project Manager Dene Peterson is a regular presenter in the Elder Cohousing Getting Started Workshops in Boulder, CO.

Glacier Circle Senior Community - Davis, CA is an eight-household project in
Davis, CA, that is part of a larger residential neighborhood. The core group
met through their local Unitarian Universalist Church and has known each
other for 40 years. Residents began
moving in December 2005 and now has all of its member households. |

Silver Sage Village - Boulder, CO. The 16 household urban Silver Sage Village are clustered around a common courtyard and an accessible 2-story, 5,000 sq. ft. Common House with a large outdoor deck and expansive views of the Rocky Mountains. All 16 homes are occupied and there have been two re sales since the community was completed. Residents serve on volunteer teams such as steering, community development, finance, legal, Common House, and workshop building and grounds. Wolf Creek Lodge – Grass Valley, California is designed to meet the needs of active adults who are seeking a way to live and age in a supportive and vibrant community. This 30-household, three story Lodge will be built on spacious, wooded land that slopes down to flowing Wolf Creek. The community is now open for new members. The project is designed by McCamant & Durrett Architects, who brought the concept of cohousing to the U.S. from Denmark, and being developed by CoHousing Partners of Nevada City, CA.
