Cohousing Development Workshop

Creating a community-based sustainable neighborhood requires a variety of skills, including residential real estate development, multi-family housing design, financial and political experience, community building, marketing and homes sales. Our Seminar provides an overview of each of these areas to assist attendees in learning the initial steps for developing socially and environmentally sustainable communities.

The 2 1/2 day seminar takes place at the Nomad Cohousing community in Boulder, Colorado. The Workshop begins on a Thursday evening with time for meeting other participants and short introductions, an orientation to the Seminar Workbook a 170-page compilation of resource materials, and a CD of Educational Powerpoint Presentations. This will be followed by a short walk to a nearby restaurant for a group dinner.

Lodging is available at at nearby Holiday Inn Express where we have reserved a block of rooms. You can get the details at this link.

Friday is dedicated to a full-day tour of five cohousing communities along the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The private tour gives you a chance to visit and ask questions of cohousing residents about life in these Sustainable Communities. At each neighborhood we meet with current residents and the project architect (when available), as well as tour the property, Common House and private homes. A more detailed schedule of events can be seen at this link.

We travel via 15-passenger van and provide a healthy lunch (chicken or vegetarian), snacks and bottled water for everyone. At the end of the day we will return to Nomad for a group discussion about the cohousing communities we visited.

Saturday begins with a catered breakfast in the Nomad Cohousing Common House, followed by a group presentation about the cohousing development process. The afternoon will be dedicated to project reviews and consulting sessions with Zev and Neshama to address specific project questions. Other Seminar attendees are encouraged to observe and contribute as time allows.
