Alternative Transportation

Mobility is the right of everyone regardless of age or income. However, our current dependence on fossil fueled single-occupancy cars limits access based on one’s economic situation. Individual automobile use is quickly becoming financially and environmentally unsustainable. We are committed to supporting the development of a national bike-share program, alternative fuels, and mass transportation systems.

In 2006, Americans used 61,000 square miles of land for roads, highways, and parking lots! In Cuba, where the cost of oil forced the nation to replace many of its roads for community gardens, the people adapted by more buses and biking. Increasingly, cities are looking at bike paths, light rail solutions and street cars within urban environments. Over 60 new rail transit systems are in development across the U.S. We also support a national high speed rail system which has been successfully used in Europe over the past two decades.
